In the 2017-18 school year, ADAT embarked on a collaboration with Stanford University’s K12 Lab Network, bringing the Design Thinking process from Stanford University to ADAT. According to Head of School, Shara Peters, “The is the premier Design Thinking institute, and we are honored that our faculty and students will be influenced by the very best in this field.”

What is Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is the new name for a centuries old process. This five-step process has been used by some of the greatest minds throughout history, and you probably use each one everyday without even knowing it! It all starts with the need to solve a problem – anything from creating the next rocket to reach far off galaxies, to figuring out a way to improve a family routine at home.

What makes Design Thinking so well-suited for ADAT is the added ingredient of empathy. It is the why we are doing what we are doing, not just the what. Jewish values should ultimately guide us to use a process like Design Thinking to gain a deeper understanding of the world around us and challenge us to try and make a difference.

Design Thinking + Empathy + ADAT = whole, healthy, happy children who CARE for others, feel confident in their own abilities, know HOW to think, and thrive in their community.

What is the K12 Lab Network*?

What does it mean for our teachers and students?

Faculty from the’s K12 Lab Network will visit and coach our faculty and students.

Design Thinking will come to life even more with these resources and training. It will flourish and spread across everything we do at ADAT.

Students will graduate more prepared than ever for a 21st century world – armed with the skills and abilities to thrive in an environment of yet-to-be-named jobs and innovations.

Our Zebrack Design Lab was inspired by the’s facilities at Stanford University, meaning that the facilities our students use are modeled after the very best in Design Thinking.

A focus of our work will explore the intersection of innovation with Tikkun Olam in order to foster a culture at ADAT that aligns with our values.
