Could your program be too religious for my family?

At our Day School, we welcome families with a wide range of observance. All levels are welcome and respected, and we are pleased to report that our Day School families, regardless of their level of observance, are comfortable within our community.

What are the students missing by having Hebrew and Judaic studies classes?

They are not missing anything! They are gaining foreign language study. Research shows learning a foreign language increases academic achievement. During Judaic studies, students are reading, writing, and analyzing themes adding to an already rich general studies language arts program.

Do you employ typical standardized tests to measure performance?

Standardized testing begins in third grade when children are developmentally ready. Testing is based on a nationally recognized independent school standard, and our test results are competitive with other top independent schools.

Is ADAT accredited?

Absolutely! We are accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the Builders of Jewish Education of Greater Los Angeles (BJELA), and the Solomon Schechter Day School Association.

Where do your graduates go, and how do they fare as they transition to middle school?

We maintain strong ties with area middle schools to provide insight and counsel to parents selecting the best middle school match for their child. The feedback we have had from middle school administrators regarding the performance of former ADAT students has been overwhelmingly positive.

Typically our graduates are accepted at:
• Archer School for Girls
• Brentwood School
• The Buckley School
• Campbell Hall
• Harvard-Westlake
• Oakwood School
• Viewpoint School
• Jewish middle and high schools
• IHP and Magnet Schools

Is ADAT kindergarten academic?

We are proud to offer a balanced program, which emphasizes academics, values, self- expression, independence, and experiential learning.

Do you teach reading in kindergarten?

We provide every child with the opportunity to learn to read in kindergarten. One of the many benefits of private school is the flexibility we have to structure our reading program around each child’s abilities and current reading level.

Does homework begin in kindergarten?

Once a week homework assignments are designed to review skills learned in the classroom. Our goal in ADAT’s kindergarten program is primarily to emphasize the lesson of responsibility, as well as, foster a sense of independence.

What is the child to teacher ratio?

In TK and Kindergarten, our ratio in the classroom is 1:12 – at least one teacher to every 12 students. It is not unusual to have an even lower teacher ratio. During centers, for example, the student/teacher ratio can be as low as 1:5, or one teacher to 5 students. However, our classrooms maintain a low teacher to student ratio all the way through 6th grade.

May I come and observe the classroom?

We believe that seeing is believing! Your visit is always welcome. To minimize disruptions in the classrooms and to maximize your viewing experience, we ask that you call to arrange a visit or tour.
