Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Dear Parents,

We have had such an amazing first week of school! What struck me was the combination of newness and tradition. We welcomed 26 new students and nine new faculty members to our ADAT community, and their energy and excitement is palpable. You might have noticed that there are many new changes being made to our campus, as we are constantly evolving our space to meet the changing needs of our community. And yet, from the moment the first child climbed out of his car Tuesday morning and gave the first teacher he saw a running flying hug, we have the ever present “whoness” of ADAT. The relationships our teachers build with our students are so deeply special, and set a strong foundation for learning that will last the whole year. Welcome back.

Each week, we will send out a newsletter like this on Fridays. Your child's teachers will also communicate with you about class happenings so that you can be better armed when your question of, “What did you do in school today?” comes back with an answer of “nothing.” Please take the time to read these communications carefully. Setting aside five minutes a week to thoroughly read our communications will allow everyone to know about upcoming events, and will be a way for our community to remain connected to one another.

At Back to School Night, you will get to hear many more details about updates to our school, and will also be able to meet your child's teachers, and visit their classrooms. Please take the time to answer our short survey (it's in the newsletter below) so that we can best tailor that evening to your interests.

Thank you, so deeply, to the parent volunteers who came and helped us build furniture and prepare for the year! We are so very appreciative. In general, we are looking to increase our level of parent volunteerism. Specifically, we would love for some parents to sign up to help serve hot lunch! If this is something that interests you, please reach out to Debra in the office: debrap@aaeds.org. Thank you in advance!

Another event that I would like to draw your attention to is our ADAT Challah Bake, coming up on September 15. All of the schools at ADAT are partnering with the sisterhood to put on this event, and I really hope to see you there. This year, we are inviting families to join, so that we can have challah-making be a whole-family event. Please mark your calendars, and see below for more information!

In general, at the bottom of the newsletter, you will see a list of upcoming events. Please make sure to check that regularly so that you don't miss something.

I can't wait for our second week of school, and to see what the rest of this year has in store for us all. Have a wonderful long weekend, and we will see you on Tuesday.

Shabbat shalom,

Shara
