Increasing Joy

Dear Parents,

“When Adar enters, Joy increases!” The month of Adar in which Purim falls is meant to be a time of increased joy.  I witnessed this joy on Thursday when we celebrated Purim as a school community. The day started with the students being greeted by the faculty dressed in costumes, dancing to Purim songs, and setting the mood for the day.  This welcome was shortly followed by a parade of costumes with the ECC on the way to singing and megillah reading with both schools. That morning I saw pure joy in our children's faces and knew what it meant for “joy to increase.”

The joy of our students is not limited to which month or holiday it is.  Since the beginning of the school year, I have witnessed a dedicated faculty who strive to create as much joy as I witnessed on Purim in the lessons they plan every day.  They are committed to making sure that our students feel the same sense of joy every day that they get from dressing up and dancing around.

During our Purim celebration, I was brought back to when I was a child and celebrating Purim.  Everyone tried to get the circle groggers because those were the “best ones”, and as a community we would listen to the reading of the Megillah.  This, for me, is the main takeaway " you don't need a date on the calendar or a holiday to tell you to be happy. It's the people that you interact with and who make up your community that make you happy.

I can't wait to see you all at Purim World here at Adat Ari El on Sunday, March 24 beginning at 11am.

Chag Purim Sameach,

Eric
