Relief for Ukraine

Many of our members and staff are very concerned about the situation in Ukraine and have reached out to us to inquire about how we can help. Below is a list of verified resources to show support. We urge our entire community to look into the following charities and aid in any way you can.

THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF LA UKRAINE FUND
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is mobilizing to respond to the needs of the Jewish community in Ukraine resulting from the Russian invasion. The entire country faces chaos, scarcity, and violence — and the almost 200,000 members of Ukraine’s Jewish community are especially vulnerable. Whenever and wherever there have been threats to Jewish life, the Federation and our partners — the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency for Israel — are there to provide vital aid and help those in peril relocate out of harm’s way. Our Federation is committed to being a part of the global Jewish response to this crisis and is immediately raising and sending funds to support our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. 100% of all funds donated will go to relief efforts.

WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN
Food is an immediate need, and Chef Jose Andrés has set up his World Central Kitchen organization on the ground at the Ukraine-Poland border, providing warm meals for the hungry. Additionally, they support local restaurants throughout Ukraine and expand into neighboring countries where refugees are fleeing. In the past ten years, WCK has provided over 12 million meals to victims of humanitarian, climate, and community crises around the world.

GLOBAL EMPOWERMENT MISSION
The Miami-based organization Global Empowerment Mission is on the ground in Medyka, Poland, using donations to immediately buy refugees train and plane tickets to help them reach any family or friends they may have in Europe. GEM Bstrong is focusing primarily on its relocation programs and supporting short-term vital necessities. The Bstrong fund will also be used to provide food, water, hygiene products, and items for pets.

JDC UKRAINE FUND
JDC is on the ground, continuing to deliver urgent, lifesaving care to the Jewish seniors and families who count on us, including food package delivery, online support and care to those sheltering in place, and transport and accommodation for those fleeing their homes. You can help right now. Your gift will provide food, medicine, and other emergency support as a lifeline to Ukraine's Jews at this critical time.

GLOBAL GIVING UKRAINE RELIEF FUND
According to the organization's official website, your donation will help "affected communities in Ukraine and surrounding regions, with a focus on the most vulnerable, including children, who need access to food, medical services, and psychosocial support." Global Giving has been responding to disasters and supporting emergency aid and long-term relief programs since 2004; they have facilitated more than $100M in disaster donations to funds just like this one.

THE JEWISH AGENCY OF ISRAEL (‏סוכנות)
As the war rages on, the Jews of Ukraine desperately need our help. The Jewish Agency is on the ground, assisting Ukrainian Jews looking to make Aliyah to Israel quickly and safely and supporting and protecting the local Ukrainian Jewish community members who have chosen to stay. But we need your support.

INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE
As the conflict in Ukraine escalates, the International Rescue Committee is mobilizing resources and connecting with partners to aid the people in Ukraine who were forced to flee their homes. As per their website, "The IRC is meeting with partners and local civil society organizations in Poland and Ukraine to assess capacity for responding to an increase of refugees and people in need." They are on the ground supporting displaced families.

SAVE THE CHILDREN UKRAINE CRISIS RELIEF FUND
According to Save the Children, there are 7.5 million kids who are in danger of physical harm, emotional distress, and displacement due to the invasion of Ukraine. Even before the conflict escalated, there were already 400,000 children who needed humanitarian aid. The organization will use donations to help families meet their basic needs such as food, medicine, and shelter and help Ukrainian children access education and psychosocial support.

UNICEF'S EMERGENCY RESPONSE IN UKRAINE
Key emergency interventions from UNICEF include:

  • Prepositioning health, hygiene, and emergency education supplies as close as possible to communities near the line of contact.
  • Trucking safe water to conflict-affected areas.
  • Supporting mobile child protection teams, providing psychosocial care to children traumatized by chronic insecurity, responding to cases of violence and abuse against children, and assisting children separated from family.
  • Working with municipalities to ensure immediate help for children and families in need.
