Course Description
This course offers the opportunity to connect on a deeper level with the Rabbis of the Talmud through studying texts that bring them to life. Most of the time, we have a misconception about Talmud, that it is a text only about Jewish law and that the sages were people who, while knowledgeable, wise and dedicated to God, were not very interesting in more human and personal ways. Nothing could be further than the truth! Rabbis studied together after all their personal tasks were done- they were sometimes tired, sometimes “punchy”, sometimes distracted and sometimes prone to humor. These are the Rabbis that students get to meet during the Secrets of the Rabbis class! We will get to know these Rabbis as friends, as spouses, as parents, as neighbors.  We will get to know them when creative, when angry, when judgmental, when amorous, when jealous, when caring, when ill, when seeing to their personal hygiene and more. Hopefully, the Secrets of the Rabbis class will enable a  deeper and positive view at how real and human Talmud and its scholars were- and how similar they were to us!
