Rabbi Deborah Silver

Rabbi Deborah Silver is currently the spiritual leader of Shir Chadash in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was ordained by the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, after which she spent six years as assistant rabbi at Adat Ari El.

She holds a Master’s degree in Hebrew Studies from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, England, and an MA in Theory and Practice of Literary Translation from the University of Essex, England. After stints in theater, publishing, and editing (including The Oxford English-Hebrew Dictionary of Current Usage), she qualified as an attorney through the College of Law in London. She worked in private practice at a leading West End firm Mishcon de Reya and then as a law professor at BPP Law School, both in London, before moving to the United States to fulfill her long-held dream of becoming a rabbi.

Rabbi Silver currently sits on the Committee of Jewish Law and Standards. She is a graduate of CLAL’s Clergy Leadership Incubator and the Institute of Jewish Spirituality’s clergy training.

Rabbi Silver seeks to create entrances to the riches of Judaism through text, prayer, music, and additional modalities such as yoga (she is a qualified instructor) so that “our tradition continues to speak to our hearts, our souls, and our daily lives.”
