Rabbi Mark Diamond: The Top Ten Commandments
A study session on the Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant versions of the Ten Commandments, and diverse Jewish perspectives on the theophany at Sinai, including Conservative, Orthodox, Reform, and Hollywood (Cecil B. DeMille) views of the revelation of Torah. You'll leave with more questions than answers!
Rabbi Sara Berman: Ruth: Being a friend during a time of crisis
"Don't call me Naomi (pleasant)," she told them. "Call me Mara (bitter)" --Ruth 1:20
Naomi feels complete despair, believing the rest of her days are bitter. She asks Ruth and Orpah to return to their own home. This is not unusual; someone who is depressed, or grieving, may want to be alone because interacting with people is exhausting. During this traumatic time in all our lives, many of us are experiencing the despair Naomi felt. Who have been the "Ruths" in your life during this time, or any challenging time? How have you been, or can you be, a "Ruth" for other people?
Rabbi Jessica Yarkin: Revelation in The Time of Boredom
Ugh. I’m so bored. How do I ward off boredom? Should I even try to combat this state of mind, or is experiencing boredom not actually that disadvantageous? What, if anything, does ancient and modern Jewish wisdom teach us about boredom, and can I be bothered to study it?
Rabbi Jonathan Bernhard: Yes, but how much of the Talmud has been through you?
